about

Salam means "Greetings" in Kiswahili... the lyrics are about a young man sending greetings from Dar es Salaam back to his family in the village: "I have arrived safely, but life in the big city is not as easy as I expected, just as you had warned me; city life is very difficult - there are no jobs, everyday life is a challenge, police are catching people living on the streets and throwing them into jail; I tried to start a small business, but my shop was destroyed by town planning police; tell my young brother Mwaipopo not to come to the city yet - life here is not as easy as village people think - he should stay and develop a useful skill like farming, and then he can be successful; I am sending my greetings - Salam".
